Udaipur is one of the fascinating places in Rajasthan, which is most popularly known as the ?City of Lakes? or ?Venice of the East?. The place was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II. According to the historical legends, the capital city, Udaipur was established as the new capital of the Kingdom of Mewar before the last assault on Chittor. .Fateh Sagar Lake - This lake is named after Maharana Fateh Singh. In 1678, Maharana Jai Singh builds this fascinating lake but later on Maharana Fateh Singh reconstructed it. The lake is surrounded by beautiful Aravali hills from all the side except for its eastern side. The lake is connected through a canal to Lake Pichola. It has three Islands. The largest one is turned into a park named ?Nehru Garden?. The second island has a solar observatory. The refreshing morning and evening surroundings of lake offers a paradise for young lovers.
Lake Pichola ? Renowned as Sapphire of Udaipur for its water sparkeled in golden colour with sunrise. This fascinating lake is 4km long and 3 km wide. The lake was built by Maharana Udai Singh II. Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir are the two islands of this lake. It has many Ghats, which are used for bathing and washing purpose. Tourists enjoy boating to reach there from City Palace; the heritage hotel lies in the heart of lake.
Udai Sagar Lake ? This is a fabulous lake, which is 13 Km from Udaipur. Maharana Udai Singh started its construction in the year1559 and ended in 1565. The lake gets generated as a result of a Dam made on river Berach. The dam was constructed by Maharana to provide water in his kingdom.
Jaisamand Lake ? This is the second largest artificial lake in the world, which was made by Maharana Jai Singh in the year1685. The lake covers an area of 36sq. km. Maharana made it to resolve the water problem in Mewar by damming the river Gomati. The lake was inaugurated in 1691 by Maharana.
Swaroop Sagar ? This lake is famous as ?Kumharia Talab?. It was built by Maharana Swaroop Singh in 1842. It is well connected to Lake Pichola & Fateh Sagar
Jiyan Sagar - This lake is popularly known as ?Badi Ka Talab?. This lake was built by Maharana Raj SinghI for reducing the food crisis in Rajasthan. The lake is named after the mother Jana Devi of Maharana. The lake is extended in an area of 155sq. km.
Doodh Talai ? The small canal at the southeastern bank of Pichola Lake immediately opens to the south of SHIV NIWAS PALACE. One can find a triangular resemblance in this spot created by Doodh Talai, Pichola Lake and M.L. Verma Garden.
